DAY - From Riches To Rags

For Autumn/Winter 2010, the DAY woman inhabits a new, old world, rich in sumptuous, silk lined luxury, but full of bohemian quirks.

The opulence is inspired by Russian art and culture - sources as diverse as Cossack ornaments, unbelievable winter palace interiors and the costume sketches of Leon Bakst.

So a young pre-revolution Russian aristo goes boho. After all, who would dare tell her what she can and cannot do? She does as she pleases and pairs her billowing silks with the shrunken suit jacket of Charlie Chaplin's little tramp.
She mixes ethnic peasant embroideries with crisp, military tailoring, trims her clothes with fur and tassels of all descriptions, dresses up as an admiral and down as a tomboy.

Self-expression has never been this good.

DAY Birger et Mikkelsen is exclusive to Marlborough.
